Álvit is developing a range of binder products for extreme conditions in the metallurgical sector. The binders are created from renewable materials and do not release harmful compounds into the environment during use.
Research Grants
One use case is in collar paste, which allows aluminum smelters to reduce anode waste. Álvit is developing a new green collar paste for the aluminum industry. The collar paste project is funded in part by the Icelandic Technology Development Fund.

Two students, that worked on projects for Álvit, received an award from the Icelandic Aluminium Cluster for their outstanding projects.
Álvit won a special award at the „Innovate to Win“ pitch competition held by the international consultancy agency Inspiralia during the Iceland Innovation Week 2023. Inspiralia specializes in writing competitive European funding applications for companies.
Sunna Ólafsdóttir Wallevik and Professor Sigrún Nanna Karlsdóttir have been nominated for the Global Women Inventors & Innovators Network (GlobalWIIN) Special Recognition Award for their innovation companies Gerosion, Álvit and Rockpore. The Globalwiin conference and award ceremony will be held in Reykjavík 6.-7.sept 2023.
